Energy Policy Institute
epi.boisestate.eduWhy energy: Energy shapes every dimension of our world – from the quality of our lives and environment to the fuel driving our economies. Our decisions and innovations have the ability to transform this system. What we do: The Energy Policy Institute (EPI) focuses on strategic problem-solving and opportunities in energy. We do so through a cross-cutting, socio-technical approach that informs policy-makers, communities and members of industry, as we train the next generation of leaders. We integrate cross-disciplinary strengths to produce evidence-based insight of local, national and international relevance. By tapping the experience and expertise of our team and collaborators, we aim to advance how people approach, create and use energy. Who we are: EPI is based at Boise State University and is the policy body of the Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES), a consortium of Boise State University, University of Idaho, Idaho State, University of Wyoming and Idaho National Laboratory. With over $5 million in external funding from the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, Western Governors Association, International Atomic Energy Agency, and others, EPI has completed policy and industry projects related to power transmission, utility scale solar siting, levelized cost of electricity, small modular reactors (SMRs), among others.
