Wiregrass Angel House

Wiregrass Angel House (WAH) was founded in 2004 at the “old” Dothan, Alabama city jail and began with only two employees. Shelly Linderman, executive director, worked side by side with her mother, Joyce Miller, who was the counselor at WAH until her passing in 2011. Now, 16 years later, WAH has six full-time employees and a standalone location gifted by a supporter of our cause. Since its founding, the staff at WAH and our volunteers have provided more than 10,000 services to homicide and robbery-related crime survivors and attended thousands of court proceedings across our eight-county service area in southeast Alabama. Police departments call on our counselors and resources for other crimes including rape, sexual assault and child abuse, and we collaborate regularly with organizations such as House of Ruth, Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center and The Exchange Center. We also continue to expand our relationships with various law enforcement agencies as they witness our success with victims (e.g., Samson massacre and Midland City school bus hostage crisis).
