AT Psychiatry, PLLC
www.at-psychiatry.comDr. Terhakopian is a board-certified psychiatrist. He earned his M.D. in 2002 through the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), the only military medical school in the United States. He completed a broad-based medical internship and psychiatry residency training at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He treated Soldiers and their families affected by the trauma of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. Dr. Terhakopian then earned his Masters in Public Health degree (M.P.H.) back at USUHS and completed a fellowship in Disaster and Trauma Psychiatry in 2008. Many thousands of patient encounters have honed Dr. Terhakopian's skills in the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of depression, anxiety, alcohol/substance use disorders and particularly PTSD. Because of his training in medicine in addition to the social and psychological sciences, Dr. Terhakopian is also able to assess for medical conditions which can and in many cases do contribute to mental health problems. This type of comprehensive evaluation significantly improves the odds of treatment success and improved functioning. Needless to say, no amount of therapy can remedy the underlying source of anxiety or depression when such mental conditions are due to metabolic, thyroid, ovarian, pituitary, infectious, vitamin deficiency, inflammatory, autoimmune or other physiological conditions. Dr. Terhakopian has authored several manuscripts and book chapters regarding Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and effects of anxiety on health and well-being. If you are ready to add medical treatments to counseling and talk therapy, or if you or your therapist suspect medical issues contributing to mental health problems, a psychiatric evaluation is the next step.
