Electricity provision has become increasingly unreliable in South Africa with blackouts increasing 6.6X from 2013 to 2019, posing significant challenges for consumers. Load shedding is concentrated during times of high need for consumers and sharp increases in electricity tariffs hit consumer pockets directly. Current conditions indicate a continuation of this challenge; Eskom’s old, underperforming fleet and South Africa’s weak economy make it difficult to raise funds for new investment in power plants. Further this challenge is not unique to South Africa, and we see opportunities in other emerging markets and home service areas. Empowered Homes is making real strides to reverse climate change from here in Mzansi. Empowered Homes focuses on helping residential consumers take back control of their energy security. We provide homes with targeted solutions with the optimal energy mix based on their consumption. We shift energy use to suit their energy mix, and continually improve home energy efficiency. The goal is to help homes reduce their cost of electricity and achieve reliable power. We do this by centralizing the alternative energy solution on solar and storage installation and provide a technology platform to monitor and adapt energy use.
