Chicago Immigrant Transit Assistance
www.citachicago.orgSince October 2018, CITA has been providing asylum seekers recently released from detention centers who arrive at Chicago transportation hubs from all over the U.S. with rapid response support. In a year, CITA served over 1,200 asylum seekers, including hundreds of children. Asylum seekers often cite their interactions with our volunteers as the first time they are treated with kindness, dignity and respect since their entry into the U.S. CITA celebrated a milestone moment in December of 2019: It went from being a volunteer-run organization to an official program of the Interfaith Community for Detained Immigrants (ICDI). Through this effort, we can ensure the services to asylum seekers can continue.
