Hand-crafted furnishings, wide plantation shutters, braided rugs, warm cypress paneling and wood burning replaces evoke a feeling of the past, while large marble-floored bathrooms provide modern comfort. Dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows bring into every room all the rich tones of the outdoor woodland setting with sweeping views over the winding Ashley River, where the rice plantation culture flourished in days gone by. Included in the room tariff, guests have unlimited access to all that Middleton Place has to offer. In addition to the gardens, begun in 1741, the House Museum interprets four generations of the Middleton Family (including a signer of the Declaration of Independence) and the Stableyards bring to life the sights and sounds of a self-sustaining plantation.
