Born and raised near Chicago, Illinois, she resides close to Durango, Colorado and received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of New Mexico in 1981. Her art career began while still a student at UNM when she was juried into the Santa Fe Armory Show. She is married to abstract artist C. Gregory Gummersall. Jenny Gummersall’s art has been exhibited in the U.S., Germany and Japan. Featured articles on her work have appeared in numerous publications including: Southwest Art, Cowboys & Indians, At Home Arkansas, Colorado Homes & Lifestyles, Wish, and Appaloosa Journal. Dr. Reinhold Misselbeck, former curator of Photography at Museum Ludwig, Cologne Germany, praised her “Monuments to Children” series in his 1995 essay Discovery of an Unknown World. Gummersall’s work is in numerous collections including Tucson Art Museum, Nestle’s Corporation, Glendale, CA, The Kanter Family Collection and Ruth Horwich in Chicago, The National Indian Gaming Association, Futurenet, Madrid Spain, University Hospital, Denver, Baylor Hospital, Dallas/Ft.Worth, The Residences at The Little Nell, Aspen, The Southern Ute Indian Tribe and The Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College.
