BillyBey Marina Services, LLC (BBMS) in partnership with Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance (MWA), was recently chosen as the operator for six New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) berthing sites to better activate several key waterfront assets. A single operator allows for increased efficiency and will allow NYCEDC to better accommodate demand for berth space for transportation, maritime operations, recreation, educational, commercial, non-profit, historic, and cultural related opportunities. The diversity of the various berth locations could potentially accommodate a wide variety of uses including, but not limited to tug and barge operators, excursion operators, recreational vessel owners, cultural, historic and educational ships. The existing permitting process is administratively cumbersome for the City and for ship operators. Permitting will now be handled by an experienced operator who will operate, maintain and market the berths so the City is better able to maximize these resources. BillyBey and MWAs involvement will enable streamlining of licensing, and other administrative functions in order to activate the waterfront and provide greater potential for more local economic development and programming. BBMS was selected as the operator for the NYCEDCs berthing sites and will be responsible for operating all seven locations, which it will do under the name s responsibilities will include, managing, maintaining, licensing and marketing.
