The Institute of Social Science Survey (ISSS), established in 2006, acts as a social science data survey coordinator and interdisciplinary empirical research platform that enables Peking University to study China's social problems and conduct social science research. At present, the ISSS is undertaking two large social survey projects: the Chinese Family Panel Studies (CFPS) and the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). The purpose of these two projects is to collect high-quality micro-data on China’s social and livelihood issues and to provide a scientific basis for policy-making while promoting social, economic, educational, and other types of cross-disciplinary research. The ISSS has a professional team and uses the latest Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) technology to ensure the quality of survey data. The institute employs domestic and international experts as consultants who help design questionnaires and sampling plans and write research reports based on survey data. It has published three volumes of China Report: Wellbeing, as well as several other reports, including the forthcoming Report on China’s Income, China’s Education Development Report, and China’s Family Dynamic Report.
