Women Ahead of Their Time (WATT)
www.womenaheadoftheirtime.orgWATT (Women Ahead of Their Time) created an online platform with a collection of personal stories from many extraordinary young professional women in STEM. From scientists and medical doctors to entrepreneurs and consultants, we present exemplar females in their early-stage careers. They come from around the globe, from different socio-economic backgrounds and have different motivations and ambitions. Each story is unique and showcases the journey of each of these women. The stories illustrate that different roads can lead to studying at world leading universities and how there is no perfect recipe for success; however, passion and determination are key to achieve these goals. These outstanding women talk about the obstacles they faced, share their successes and how they overcame their failures, leaving a few sentences of advice to the younger generation of women aspiring to build their own unique, ambitious careers. The aim is to celebrate these sensational junior female leaders and to inspire younger generations to follow their footsteps. Our target audience includes young professionals who are about to finish their degrees and are considering their future career possibilities and want to learn more about various career paths and job opportunities. We also aim to inspire girls to dream big from as early as possible. It is important to promote female role models at time when girls are growing and maturing, so they can be heartened to aim high, no matter their starting line. Our long-term vision is to build a wider network of professional women, by continuously sharing new stories and case studies, stirring relevant discussions with our blog posts and organising events. WATT was initiated in 2018 by six female Cambridge PhD graduates.
