Hill Center at the Old Naval Hospital is a vibrant home for culture, education and city life on Capitol Hill, offering programs that range from cooking classes and tastings to concerts, art shows and classes and film screenings to lectures, youth development, writing workshops and more. The beautifully rehabilitated former Civil War-era hospital is also a historic venue with modern amenities for businesses and groups to hold conferences, meetings, trainings, retreats and more. Our beautiful outdoor garden space provides a wonderful, intimate backdrop for events and weddings in the midst of the bustling city. Light filled rooms with 8 foot windows and 14 foot ceilings are complemented by state-of-the-art audiovisual facilities, free wifi, and a green geothermal heating and cooling system. Commissioned by President Lincoln in 1864 and opening its doors in 1866, the historic Old Naval Hospital has been used to care for veterans of the Civil War and Spanish-American wars, a hospital corps training school, temporary home for old soldiers and sailors, and finally the home of several social service organizations.
