German Society for Security Policy

We are the Gesellschaft für Sicherheitspolitik e. V. (German Society for Security Policy), founded on January 5, 1952, and thus the oldest security policy educational institution in the Federal Republic of Germany. As an independent, non-partisan association with around 80 sections and nearly 7,000 members throughout Germany, we are dedicated to communicating an understanding of security policy to the German public. With our local sections - led by experienced, volunteer section leaders and supported by a large number of active members - we hold up to 1,000 public events a year - and increasingly also hold discussions digitally. In doing so, we work closely with other organizations of relevance to security policy. Our "Young GSP", founded in 2019, is aimed at people under 35 who are interested in security policy and complements the offerings of the local sections - for constructive cooperation between the generations. With credible commitment, convincing competence and comprehensible argumentation, we convey the profound changes in the international security environment, name the new risks and threats in a permanently changing world, shed light on contexts and backgrounds. In doing so, we take into account the holistic approach of a networked security policy. In doing so, we attach importance to the idea of a defensible and combative democracy as a prerequisite for peace, freedom and security, as enshrined in the German Basic Law. We work to raise awareness of the need for and value of broadly understood security provision to safeguard our free democratic basic order in international responsibility.
