The Made Here Now project is a national initiative funded by some of the biggest names in UK manufacturing including Airbus, BAE Systems, JCB, Renishaw and the University of Greenwich to name but a few. Made Here Now has two main aims - to encourage more young people to consider a future in the industry and to help rebalance the national economy through the growth of manufacturing. Britain has an immense store of talent in manufacturing and many strong companies. But the popular image of British manufacturing is poor. By shining a light on some of the untold success stories, we want to change perceptions and build a better future for the sector Manufacturing is the art and science of transforming materials to make new products that meet new and existing needs. Contrary to many prominent opinions Britain is still an important player in this field but what the country makes – and how it does this – has changed. The focus in manufacturing is shifting towards high-value products tailored to individual requirements, supported by advanced technology and design. In the new industrial era now opening up, the UK has the potential to do well – as long as businesses with good ideas can recruit the necessary skilled employees and are backed by government and investors.
