The African Financial & Economic Crimes Academy seeks to transform Africa’s capacity to deter, detect and disrupt financial and economic crimes, from fraud and corruption to cybercrime, counterfeiting, trafficking and environmental offences. As a specialist, regional resource, the Academy will dramatically increase the number of people, at all levels and over a broad front, with the practical expertise needed to tackle the rapidly growing scale, scope and sophistication of financial and economic crimes in Africa. It will also greatly strengthen relevant local institutions, promote more context-specific skills and procedures, and facilitate more effective cross-border collaboration. The Academy operates across the region's public, private and third sectors, with the backing of numerous key figures and institutions. There is no remotely similar facility: independent; professional; focussed exclusively on the region; committed to developing context-specific expertise; and able to greatly leverage existing efforts in this regard.
