The Matrix Institute on Addictions was established in 1984 to promote a greater understanding of addiction and to improve the quality and availability of addiction treatment services. Our Mission is to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by alcohol and other drug use through treatment, education and training, and research, promoting a greater understanding of addictive disorders. The Matrix approach emphasizes the use of outpatient techniques. Treatments focus on: Lifestyle changes Training in relapse prevention Education about dependencies Twelve-step facilitation Family involvement The Matrix Model has been recognized as one of the few evidence-based programs for substance abuse disorders and has been listed on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP). This prestigious listing was based on the Matrix Institute on Addictions, WLA, San Fernando Valley, Inland Empirecumulative data from evaluations of the Matrix Model over the past 25 years. Matrix Institute is nationally and internationally recognized for its structured, outpatient treatments and research-supported elements. Matrix is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and is a proud member of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP). Matrix is a leader in conducting training on the Matrix Model and providing evidence-based substance abuse education. The Matrix Model has been published by Hazelden (the largest publisher of substance abuse treatment materials in the country); and by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). In addition, an adaptation of the treatment manual was specially designed for American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN) and is widely used throughout the U.S.
