The Islamic University of Minnesota is an independent educational organization. The organization was established in the city of Minneapolis in the state of Minnesota in 2006 (1427 Hijri). The university offers two routes of learning, in-class and distant learning. Both Islamic studies and Arabic language classes are offered in two languages, i.e., Arabic and English. The classes are offered in the following disciplines: Islamic Law (Sharia), Education and Arabic language, and Quranic Recitation Methods (Qira’at). The university offers Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degrees. The university currently consists of the college of Islamic Studies of Minnesota and the Graduate Institute for Aalims (Scholars) and Daais (Advocates), GIAD. The latter has an intensive 2-years program that allows students to receive their Master’s degree in Islamic Studies. Along with the main branch in Minneapolis, MN, the university has branches in Davis, CA – Detroit, MI and Seattle, WA. The university is known for its moderate view of the Islamic belief based on the Quran and Sunnah. General Goals of the university: Firstly: Spread the Islamic knowledge within the Muslim community in an effort to increase the span of Islamic awareness, and spread the Islamic education. Secondly: Create scholars and advocates of the Islamic faith.
