Vision: Leavenworth County sets the standard for humane communities – becoming a place where all animals are treated humanely, and every pet has a loving forever home. Mission Leavenworth County Humane Society, Inc. provides the animal welfare focal point for all of Leavenworth County. Conducts humane education for schools and community groups. Provides spay / neuter services to reduce the number of homeless animals and enhance the health of homed animals. Works to improve animal protection laws and their enforcement. Cares compassionately for stray, abandoned and relinquished animals (future: in a pro-life, state-of-the-art care center) and licensed foster homes. Re-homes adoptable animals with responsible owners and provides adoption follow-up. Helps owners retain their pets by providing education and training assistance. Partners with cities, the county, other rescues, shelters and animal welfare groups to create a humane county where people and animals want to live. Values We believe that: • Animals are capable of pleasure and pain and are worthy of human compassion. • Humans have a moral responsibility to treat animals humanely. • People want to provide lifelong appropriate care for their animals. • Companion animals enhance the quality of human life. • Violence, cruelty and neglect toward animals are related to violence, cruelty and neglect toward humans. • Promoting compassion toward animals encourages people to treat each other with respect and kindness. • Humane communities attract law-abiding responsible citizens that contribute to the overall quality of life for all.
