Backed by early-stage VCs and the National Cancer Institute of Health of the NIH, Shade is a spin-off of the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute in New York and a Highway1/PCH graduate that is re-inventing the standard of care in dermatology for photosensitive diseases (skin cancer, autoimmune disorders like lupus, etc.). Shade has built a proprietary and differentiable medical-grade wearable ultraviolet sensor that is 10x more accurate than anything else on the market. The sensor connects to the smartphone, enabling a rich interaction with users and unprecedented data collection about the impact of ultraviolet exposure on health. The Shade team is comprised of scientists and engineers with a deep expertise in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, manufacturing, and epidemiology, and is backed by a strong medical advisory board.
