We are a social enterprise consulting firm of sorts (although we think social enterprise firestarter has a nicer ring to it). Our goal--quite simply--is to make more mission-centric, truly transformative social enterprise happen. We do this by: (1) consulting with social innovators to help them map out their ideas as for-profit models instead of nonprofit ones, (2) helping social innovators choose the right entity type, form it, and coach on best practices going forward, (3) converting nonprofits to for-profits, where the model makes sense, and (4) securing funding in the form of seed and growth capital through program-related investments by connecting social enterprises with forward-thinking foundations, and facilitating the resulting transactions. Our driving philosophy: By using nontraditional models and tools where they work, we believe the best and brightest change-driven minds are freed from the red tape and restrictions typically found in the social sector. This, in turn, frees them to focus on what’s important. To implement a much broader and more powerful range of strategies. To make lives better (on all sides of the equation). And maybe even solve a few of the world’s problems along the way.
