Leaders Leading Leaders to Lead
www.leaderslltl.caEarly in my career I tried desperately to find inspiration and leadership from my employers and sadly, it was often never there. Many times I was left doing my own thing, relying on instinct and not experience. There was no leader leading me to lead others. I failed miserably at first, and I mean it was real bad. I had customers yelling at me, staff taking advantage of me to get their own way, staff quitting because of the lack of leadership, KPI’s-what the heck is a KPI? I first heard that term in the 90’s and thought it was a computer program. I still laugh at that, even writing this. Although I was trying to carve my own path as a Manager, and try different things, I had no idea just how important a development plan was. I’m a prairie boy, born and raised in Saskatchewan. Growing up a Rider fan, that meant I cheer for the underdog with a passion for helping others. I believe helping others is my calling. Nothing gives me more joy and a sense of accomplishment than watching others grow into their full potential. A life-long learner, I encourage people to think outside the box, and ask themselves, ‘Why not?’. I grew up with the belief the customer is the reason why businesses either succeed or fail. With that in mind, I challenge us all to heighten customer experiences, and connect with people to embrace change; don’t be afraid of it, make improvements that strengthen and support personal goals, and have fun while doing it.
