Lemons to Aid

www.lemonstoaid.org

Lemons to Aid was founded on one very simple idea: no child is too young to make a difference in the world. When the earthquake struck Haiti on January 12, 2010, soon-to-be Lemons to Aid founder, Melissa Plaskoff, knew she had to find a way to help. Little did she expect the solution to come from her then four-year-old son, Hudson. On January 19th, exactly one week after the 7.0-magnitude earthquake devastated the nation of Haiti, Hudson asked his Mom if he and his two-year-old brother, Parker, could set up a lemonade stand. She enthusiastically responded that it was a great idea, but they could only do it on one condition: that all of the money they raised be donated to Haitian earthquake relief. The boys were so excited, and the stand was a huge success! They colored signs, made lemonade, sold cookies, accepted donations, and raised more than $150 in three hours (they even made a sale to the mail-lady)! Through the hands-on experience of hosting a lemonade stand, Hundson and Parker not only learned how important it is to help others in need, but also that one little act can make one big difference. Since its first Lemons to Aid stand on January 19, 2010, Lemons to Aid has grown into a not-for-profit platform offering ideas and tools for families to work together and get involved in making a difference by hosting lemonade stands, bake sales, read-a-thons, and other creative projects as a means to raise funds for disaster relief efforts and other need-based causes.
