The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department (AFRD) is a multi-faceted, all-hazards emergency response organization with a diverse workforce. The department is comprised of six divisions of labor: Support Services Division, Field Operations Division, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division, Technical Services Division, Fiscal and Administrative Affairs Division, and the Airport Fire Division. AFRD is one of more than two dozen fire departments in the country to be accredited by the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE), as well as maintain an Insurance Service Office (ISO) Rating of Class 1. The women and men of AFRD are committed to delivering best-in-class service to its community. In accordance with the established Standards of Response Coverage (SORC), which serves as a service-level benchmarks for the citizens, businesses, and visitors to the great city of Atlanta, our department personnel perform their duties day in and day out. In 2020, AFRD responded to 82,833 calls for service over a geographical area of 143.67 square miles, which includes 14 square miles at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (HJAIA). At HJAIA, the World’s Busiest Airport, we operate 5 fire stations that serves over 1 million passengers from over 100 different countries. Atlanta Fire Rescue Department also protects approximately 523, 738 residents; over 3,000 high-rise buildings; 23 miles of the rapid rail system; and 60 miles of interstate highway.
