ViewPoint Water Biomonitoring
www.toxmate.fr200,000 molecules are identified in the different families of emerging contaminants including heavy metals, pesticides, drug residues, solvents, etc that directly impact the quality of water bodies, natural environments, and human health. So how do you preserve the quality of the water and detect micropollutants in the water to treat them? Micropollutants in water often escape the analyzes permitted by Physico-chemical sensors because they are too numerous and present in very small quantities. 6 years of research in partnership with INRAE and 2 joint patents then made it possible to develop ToxMate, a biomonitoring station that detects micropollutants in water in real-time. A water pollution alert station : ToxMate is a water pollution alert station based on the behavioral analysis of 3 bioindicators representative of European natural environments: grammarian, leech, and freshwater snails. the sensitivity of the 3 aquatic organisms to a wide range of chemicals makes it possible to signal the presence of micropollutants as soon as the species modify their behavior A decision-making tool : ToxMate is a connected alert station. Deployed in urban wastewater treatment plant, industrial wastewater treatment plant, and drinking water treatment plant. It allows : - Instant detection of chemical substances in water by identifying abnormal behaviors signifying the presence of micropollutants or cocktail effects. - sending an immediate alert, on a computer or smartphone in the event of water pollution, allowing water treatment managers who then decide on the corrective actions to be implemented for the optimization of tertiary treatment or the control of water potable water.
