North-CCU-Hub
www.northccuhub.euIndustry faces enormous challenges with respect to achieving the European climate and energy objectives. Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) will play a major role in making industry more sustainable. The pursuit of climate targets will also be accompanied by an impressive energy transition, in which hydrogen and synthetic fuels are expected to play an important role. Twenty public and industrial partners in the area of North Sea Port are going to collaborate intensively to make significant progress in the transitions towards sustainability. North-CCU-Hub will close loops through industrial symbiosis and create new value chains with CO2 as a feedstock. It brings together expertise of innovation driven industry of world-level with knowledge institutes and spearhead clusters, supported by public partners. The hub strives to become the worldwide reference for capture and reuse of CO2 by cross-border collaboration. A first milestone will be the implementation of North-C-Methanol, a first large demonstration project consisting of a 63 MW electrolyser combined with a methanol plant with a capacity of 45.000 ton/y. Beyond this realization, our roadmap describes the further upscaling of North-C-Methanol. In parallel, an innovation trajectory will be rolled out, in which new technologies, products and markets will be developed. The partners include: - Industrial partners from different sectors: steel mill (ArcelorMittal), energy (Engie, Terranova Solar), waste management (Renewi), chemistry (Cargill, Eastman, Oleon, Alco Bio Fuel), logistics (Fluxys, Oil Tanking), transport (Anglo Belgian Corporation). - Local and regional governments: City of Ghent, the Province of East-Flanders, POM East-Flanders, North Sea Port - Knowledge and innovation partners: Ghent University, Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant, CAPTURE, Catalisti, Flux50.
