The Cardozo Journal of Equal Rights and Social Justice (formerly the Journal of Law and Gender) has been a pioneering publisher of social justice-related legal scholarship for over twenty years. The Journal has distinguished itself by publishing the first and most prestigious annotated legal bibliography on current gender issues in different areas of law. The Journal is currently ranked number 14 in the nation in the category of gender, women, and sexuality, and will now be expanding its range to include topics of race and diversity. The Journal publishes three issues per year with Articles and Notes that address a broad range of gender, sexual orientation, race and diversity-based topics and reflect interdisciplinary views on the legal concerns relating to race, national origin, gender, sexuality, family and children. The Journal’s Articles and Notes cover a variety of legal topics such as employment law, health care, immigration, race relations, human rights and international law, family law, civil rights and criminal law. Recent publications have included Articles and Notes on legal status of children and youth migrating to the U.S. alone because of parental abuse, neglect or abandonment, gentrification, changing tables in male restrooms, domestic violence and legal reform in Nigeria, the abuse and neglect of minors in polygamous communities, and contraceptive equality and international efforts to combat and prosecute rape as a war crimes. In addition, the Journal sponsors an annual symposium on a topical issue featuring leading academics, activists and practitioners. Recent symposia topics include transphobic bathroom bill litigation and feminism in the Trump era. We see the symposium as an opportunity to explore interesting, critical legal issues in a public forum at Cardozo.
