MathMove
www.mathmove.orgIn 2009 at Birmingham-Southern College when Leslie Ann Kilpatrick (founder) received Interdisciplinary Honor for her research on "The Physics of Ballet". Her interest in alternative ways to teach mathematics continued the following year while completing her senior thesis on Game Theory. In 2013, MathMove began offering group classes at Brooklyn Music School, Citizens of the World Charter School, LaGuardia Performing Arts High School, Poly Preparatory School, St. Holy Angels Catholic Academy, and The Guild for Exceptional Children. The most ground breaking observation during this time was how easily individuals with learning difficulties were able to integrate with average and above students. Today, MathMove is an established STEAM-based curriculum geared towards engaging people of all ages with mathematics and science through dance. Learning-Style Assessments determine not only skills but how the student conceptualizes information. MathMove Teachers guide an individual or group through visual, audible, kinesthetic and tactile methods. The goal of each lesson is to help the student connect intuitively with math & science and foster a love of learning!
