McIntyre Centre - Riding for the Disabled Association
www.helpdisabilitycare.com.auThe McIntyre Centre was the first Pony Riding for Disabled Centre in Australia. Established in 1964, our Association has enhanced the lives of tens of thousands young people with a disability living in the Greater Brisbane and Ipswich regions. Our mission is to provide equestrian programs for people with a disability for the purpose of education, enjoyment, recreation, sport, and therapy. The Centre occupies a 40 acre facility. It offers a variety of equine-assisted development programs in a caring environment for young people and children with a disability. We operate Monday-Saturday, 42 weeks per annum and cater for a client base of 280 young people. We support riders with various disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Autism, Visual, Speech and Auditory Impairments. We focus on clients’ abilities, not disabilities, and work towards young people achieving their full potential. Over 100 volunteers provide much needed assistance in delivering our programs. We have 28 trained horses supporting our programs and approximately 600 people visit the Centre each week.
