Oulu Mining School
www.oulu.fiOulu Mining School The importance of education and research in various aspects of the raw material industry has increased dramatically in Finland. This is related to the revival of mining and exploration during the last decade. The Oulu Mining School aims to integrate scientific disciplines along the value chain from exploration to mining and mineral processing. We concentrate on the research and education in Geosciences: geology and mineralogy, Quaternary geology, and Mining Engineering and Mineral Processing (including Applied Geophysics). Continuous Pilot Plant The Oulu Mining School Research Centre has an unique continuous, automated and modular concentrator pilot plant with a capacity of 70 kg/h of ore. It is based on the flowsheet of the Pyhäsalmi mine concentrator at a scale of 1:2500 and is ideal for research and educational purposes. In pilot plant hall there are crushing-, magnetic- and gravity separation environments and all laboratory equipment for flotation research. In the OMS R&D Centre there are process-water and cleaning research environments. In mining engineering laboratory, there is a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar for blasting research. Mining Engineering Mining Engineering is an engineering discipline. Mining Engineering applies science in mechanics (especially in rock mechanics) and machinery technology, as well as the science and technology in other disciplines such as physics, materials science, chemistry, and business management, to extract minerals from the earth. Mining Engineering is associated with other disciplines, such as Mineral Processing, Geology, Metallurgy, and Geotechnical Engineering. Research in Mining Engineering at Oulu Mining School covers for example; mining optimization, mining methods, rock fracture under static and dynamic loads, rock drilling and boring, rock blasting and rock fragmentation, tunnelling, vibration reduction ... Our clients are mining companies and technology companies from Finland and abroad.
