Daama Foundation
www.daamafoundation.orgDaama Foundation is a social enterprise that makes footwears from old tires and conveyor belts. The foundation was inspired by a six year old girl who had a vision to end the problem of kids in deprived communities going to school barefooted. Started in her little village of Sekyere Heman in the Western Region, Daama Foundation currently operates in the entire Wassa East District and other deprived communities in Western Region of Ghana providing them with footwears for school. Daama eco-friendly footwears are made from old tires and conveyor belts which would have otherwise been disposed or burned - causing harm to the environment! These footwears are offered to kids at no cost and are smartly made so kids would love them and enjoy wearing to school. In making the first Daama footwear, the team together with a local shoemaker experimented the old tradition of making tire footwear and combined modern innovation to create a collection that addresses the problem of children who walk to school barefooted due to economic hardships. In order to provide economic opportunities for the youth in these areas, they are taught the art of tire footwear making. Some are then recruited into the production team of the foundation after training whiles others are supported set up their footwear making business.
