At PHOENIX TP, we have developed Deep Tax, a tax optimisation application for groups of companies that is powered by AI technology, using the world's most powerful tools available. Deep Tax makes decisions at company and group level that optimise the tax position for groups of companies within a single or multi-year timeframe. The coverage is comprehensive, detailed and up to date. For example, it includes the highly complex corporate interest restriction; pre/post April 2017 loss relief; group relief for current and carried forward losses; group relief rules for non-coterminous periods; the bank loss restriction and companies with oil & gas activities. Data can be automatically imported from ALPHATAX or from a bespoke Excel template. A cognitive approach There were two crucial aspects in the design: • In arriving at the solution Deep Tax must apply the considerations and objectives of a tax professional. Special algorithms that think/review/analyse/act have been written to achieve this. • The user must be able to influence the optimisation and hence the solution.
