Barefaced Stories was created in 2010 by Andrea Gibbs and Kerry O’Sullivan. After Gibbs studied in NYC with award-winning storyteller Margot Leitman the pair were keen to start up a unique storytelling night in their own in home-town of Perth. Wanting to inspire others to get involved and create a first-class show for their audience, the girls flew Leitman out from the USA in January 2011 to run a series of workshops for interested locals. 38 people signed up for that first workshop creating an unshakeable foundation of skilled raconteurs in Perth. Since 2011 Barefaced Stories has grown enormously. With monthly sell-out shows, annual StoryBATTLE competitions, podcasts, Music Edition performances and regular international guest teachers (including Brian Finkelstein, host of The Moth LA), it has become one of the most popular storytelling nights in Australia, and a must-see on the Perth arts scene calendar.
