The Georges Riverkeeper (previously known as Georges River Combined Councils’ Committee) is a regional grouping of eight local government councils across the Georges River catchment. Member Councils are: Bayside Council, City of Canterbury-Bankstown Council, Campbelltown City Council, Fairfield City Council, Georges River Council, Liverpool City Council, Sutherland Shire Council and Wollondilly Shire Council. The Georges River catchment is one of the most urbanised and culturally diverse river catchments in Australia with an area of 960 sq km and a population of 1.4 million. Our aspirational goal is to be; “Best practice environmental management for a liveable urban river”. Georges Riverkeeper is one of Australia’s longest serving catchment management groups; we’re celebrating our 40th Anniversary this year. The five areas we focus on are: • Catchment Actions • River Health Monitoring • Stormwater • Research • Education and Capacity Building. Georges Riverkeeper acknowledges the traditional custodians of the Country of the Georges River, the people of the Kameygal, Bediagal, Cabrogal, Cannemegal, Gweagal and Norongerragal clans.
