Mr. Edward Olutoke, the President of the Ikeja Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (ICCIA), is urging businessmen and women in the Ikeja and its environs to join the chamber and take advantage of the opportunities that membership of the chamber presents to expand their business. He has said that Ikeja is too important for it to be subsumed under an entity, this necessitated the terms of having a chamber of commerce to represent its member's interest. Giving the reasons why the chamber was established in an interview with Newsmen on Wednesday, he said that, “Ikeja Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (ICCIA ) is the hub of business and commerce in Africa and is too important for it to be subsumed under an entity. Ikeja businesses need much seriousness, attention, organization, and realignment.” He stated that most of the chambers of commerce around are focused on big businesses, adding that attention is not focused on small businesses at the grassroots, adding ICCIA will fill that gap. “Our chamber is a grassroots chamber. We pay much attention to the creativity, commerce and activities in Ikeja and help the grassroots businesses to grow. That basically is the essence of the Ikeja Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture,” he posited. Olutoke said the response to the chamber has positive, as businesses want to join it. He stated that members immediately get a free website once they join the chamber, because, according to him, “every business must have online presence because that is where the world is growing now. If you don’t have a functional website, you are not in business. So, we make sure that our members are globally connected.” The president of ICCIA disclosed that the chamber has educational progrmmes where members can new ideas, concepts and business strategies, adding that they can get mentorship from experienced members of the chamber.
