IMANI
www.imaniamanda.comIMANI is a website built to be a platform that shows the inner workings of storytelling, dropping the veil between what is real and what is story. Pursuing the career of screenwriter, Imani Thompson studied at the University of Central Florida, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, Creative Writing in 2016. She then went on to study at Boston University where she received a Master of Fine Arts degree in Screenwriting in 2018. Throughout the development of her craft, Imani began to see the reality behind what is so freely shared and distributed as entertainment into the world: real people in their rawest moments. Vulnerability. As someone who had personal stories of her own she wanted to share, Imani created IMANI, a space where she could not only document and share her own coming-of-age story through her personal blog, but could also share her motivational, self-help articles ranging from topics on "What to do with the rest of your life" to "How to recover from each other's boundaries". On the same platform, Imani critiques a wide array of tv shows, past and current through what she calls "The Rant". In these critiques, she tests the level of humanity in their stories against the show's success, in the hopes to highlight how much real is behind what we sometimes so nonchalantly see as just "TV", and how that is what we connect to. Every scene from every show holds a lesson from someone's life that we can now learn from, so the truth is, there is no story; there is only the real. 'Imani' is the Swahili word for faith and so IMANI strives to be a space where through sharing personal experiences, all can see that they are not alone in the struggles they face in the journey of life, a space where they can feel safe and motivated to push through challenges, a space where we can own our stories enough to see how important it is to share them on a broader platform, even if it means helping one person climb out of the trenches, and into the light.
