AMSEC's mission is to educate students in materials science, support interdisciplinary research, and enhance regional industry competitiveness and innovation. With an educational focus that features interdisciplinary materials science courses as well as research opportunities, students who complete AMSEC courses go onto careers in aerospace, biotechnology, microelectronics, nanotechnology, clean energy, defense, and transportation. Collaboration - AMSEC works with companies to encourage private sector innovation and improve competitiveness with R&D, access to specialized equipment, faculty experts, and student interns. Innovation - AMSEC’s research programs span a broad spectrum of scientific and engineering fields. Areas of expertise represented include analytical chemistry, biomaterials, polymers and composites, catalytic materials, photovoltaic and electronic materials, marine-related materials, magnetic materials, nanomaterials, and geomaterials. Technical Resources - AMSEC offers a wide range of state-of-the-art materials synthesis, processing, and characterization resources available to university researchers and companies in need of specialized equipment or expertise. Information for Industry - Part of the AMSEC’s mission is to promote private sector innovation by helping companies address their challenges in materials analysis, research, and development. Whether its access to specialized equipment, faculty expertise, or assistance with R&D; AMSEC can help connect companies to the most appropriate resources. Most small and medium-sized companies have limited in-house scientific and engineering resources. AMSEC can partner with these business to help provide the missing pieces. Materials Analysis - AMSEC provides specialized chemical and physical testing services that are either difficult to obtain or not available elsewhere in our region. Services include DSC, TGA, XRD, SEM, optical microscopy, FTIR, UV-VIS, Fluorimetry, and other methods.
