Stichting Democratie en Media zet zich in voor een vitale en daadkrachtige democratie en biedt weerstand tegen totalitaire tendensen in politiek en maatschappij. In een democratische rechtstaat zijn de media van cruciaal belang. Daarom ondersteunt de stichting o.a. initiatieven of organisaties die de onafhankelijke kwaliteitsjournalistiek en pluriformiteit van de media beschermen en stimuleren. Dat kan zijn in de vorm van subsidies, leningen, investeringen of financiële borgstellingen. Daarbij gaat het om zeer uiteenlopende projecten, zoals bijvoorbeeld publicaties, lezingen, conferenties, nieuwe media-initiatieven en journalistieke prijzen. De stichting initieert tevens steeds vaker zelf projecten in Nederland en in andere Europese landen, doorgaans in samenwerking met verwante organisaties, zoals de European Press Prize. ------ The Democracy and Media Foundation is committed to a strong and vigorous democracy and offers resistance against totalitarian tendencies within politics and society. The media are crucial in a constitutional democracy. Therefore, the foundation supports various initiatives and organizations that protect and encourage independent quality journalism and media pluralism. For example: publications, lectures, conferences, new media initiatives and journalism awards. Support may come in the form of advice, grants, loans, investments, or financial guarantees. The Democracy and Media Foundation also increasingly initiates its own projects, both within the Netherlands and in other European countries. These projects are often organized in cooperation with related organizations such as is the case with the European Press Prize.
