Equip
www.equipnx.comToday is a new day! My alarm went off, I woke up, brushed my teeth, took a shower, picked out my clothes, made my breakfast and coffee, then planned my day, all without anyone’s help. For most, this sounds like a typical morning, but for many of others, it’s not. You see, for millions of individuals living with an intellectual disability, and their caregivers, what we may consider a typical morning, or what came as second nature to us, is filled with reminders, worry, and stress. Fortunately, there are more than 300 inclusive higher education programs across the United States that are designed to provide support and evidence-based practices to help individuals with intellectual disabilities learn to live more meaningful and independent lives. It’s an amazing mission and one that requires an extreme amount of emotional intelligence and systems to ensure the success of the students and their families. As one can imagine, this requires many hours of coordination, but what if there were a better way? A way in which the talented people that care for these students on a day-to-day basis can focus on interpersonal interactions and automate the important processes. Equip is the answer you've been looking for! Equip exists to provide program staff with the tools they need to take back the time in their day. In partnership with Auburn University, the Auburn University EAGLES Program, and Airship, Equip aims to provide three pillars of services to the success of these programs; education, consultation, and technology. The short-term vision of this venture is to Equip these programs with these tools as we aim to develop resources for those outside of the programs as well. We are passionate about helping such an amazing group of people and excited about the opportunity to help increase independence and decrease the cognitive load of those we serve.
