Woods Hole Group's Energy & Mining Business Unit provides oceanographic services specifically tailored to the offshore energy industry. Our services are designed to assist with the planning of safe and efficient operations to minimize costly downtime caused by challenging ocean currents. Following the strategic merger of CLS Group’s three US-based entities - Horizon Marine, CLS America, and Woods Hole Group on January 1, 2018 - the traditional branded ocean current monitoring and forecasting services of Horizon Marine (EddyWatch®, FAST Eddy℠, RouteWatch®, SurveyWatch℠, and MODUWatch℠) are now are provided by the new Woods Hole Group. These services utilize state-of-the-art techniques in the acquisition and analysis of oceanographic data for mapping, modeling, and forecasting significant oceanic events. Our system of daily observations, including real-time data several remote sensing techniques allows for the accurate reporting, and reliable forecasting of ocean currents. By turning data into actionable information, we put currents in context to create situational awareness. The Offshore Measurements Systems (OMS) Team from the old Woods Hole Group continues to provide Metocean Consultancy Services, Metocean Measurement Services (sub-sea moorings), Offshore Metocean Monitoring Systems (real-time rig and buoy systems), and real-time environmental measurement systems for ports and harbors in support of NOAA. Ports Measurements typically include meteorological data such as wind speed and direction, barometric pressure, air temperature, and visibility, as well as oceanographic data including currents or current profiles, water level (tide height), water temperature, and salinity. The data are used in real time by ship pilots, boat operators, port managers, fishermen, the Coast Guard, and law enforcement agencies.
