Trestle Theatre

Trestle is a mask and physical theatre company based in St Albans, at Trestle Arts Base. Participatory and performance work for 11 to 25 year-olds is Trestle’s priority: Trestle’s mission is to deliver cross art form collaborative experiences that connect with young people, inspiring them to use their creativity to live better lives. Trestle has been making innovative and inspirational physical storytelling theatre since 1981. For 25 years, we worked mainly with full masks. Over the past 5 years, we have collaborated with UK and international artists to explore what happens when Trestle unmasks and uses voice, text, and dance. We have reviewed our mask making business and are now taking the creative stimulus of our work with young people and physical storytelling theatre into our mask resources and workshops. Driven by the last five years of international influences and cross-cultural collaboration, we aim to take the masks in a new direction, with the offer of digital and live resources to support training, participation and performance. We welcome people of all ages into Trestle Arts Base, where we show high quality professional productions on the first weekend of every month. There are weekly classes and community events, as well as spaces for performance research and development.
