HAMPTON THEATRE COMPANY, founded in 1984, presents plays from September through June of each year at the lovely and historic Quogue Community Hall. Over its 30-year history, the company has produced more than 100 critically acclaimed productions, both classic and contemporary, comic and dramatic, with casts drawn from members of the company and the larger theatrical community. The company began life as the dream of founders James Ewing, Jim Irving and June Ewing at the Westhampton Beach Middle School with a production of THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK. In the early years, with no theater and no capital, the intrepid group performed in such dramatic venues as a tent pitched behind the Masonic Temple in the midst of an August hurricane. In 1987, thanks to the generosity of the Village of Quogue, the company found a home at the Quogue Community Hall where, for the next 13 years, the company built its enduring reputation as the preeminent local theater company. In 2000, the Village of Quogue began an extensive renovation of the Community Hall and the HTC took to the road again, presenting plays at both the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center and at East Hampton's Guild Hall. Happily, in the spring of 2004, the Hampton Theatre Company was able to return to Quogue and a beautiful new performance space where it continues to present four to five shows each season for the entertainment and inspiration of its East End community and the world beyond.
