SOSMC USA
www.sosmcusa.orgSOSMC was founded to raise funding for the renovation of the Opportunity School, a vocational school and orphanage for children with disabilities ages 3 through 18. Based in Chennai, India, the school and dormitory are made up of 3 buildings built between 1969 and 1995. Each year, flooding from monsoons would cause extensive devastation to the campus and keep the school from functioning. To solve this issue, engineers determined that the buildings, though in need of repair, were structurally sound and could be lifted 5 feet to reduce exposure from flooding. Renovation of the buildings began with the newest building and included steelwork, brickwork, electrical, plumbing, plastering, painting, woodwork, aluminum partitions, and installing a drainage ditch. The renovation work for Building 1995 was completed in June 2020! Funding for the renovation of the second building has been raised and construction is anticipated to start in 2022. Completing the renovations of all three buildings would allow the Opportunity School to teach and care for students without fear of impacts to the campus from flooding, and increase capacity from 140 to 180 students. The children will be able to learn in an environment built to accommodate their needs and encourage their success. By fulfilling our mission of renovating this campus, SOSMC will be transforming buildings and changing lives. SOSMC is located in the heart of Dallas, Texas, and is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) charity registered in the United States. Please visit our website, www.sosmcusa.org, for more info.
