www.merlinmscentre.org.ukThe Merlin MS Centre is an independent charity located in mid-Cornwall, which provides a range of expert care, support and therapies for people whose lives are affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS), but also for those with other neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s, Stroke, ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. There are on average 70 people a day who come to the Centre. As it receives no Government funding, the Charity derives its income from fundraising activities; hiring of t conference and clinical rooms to external clients, plus income from grant making trusts. Cornwall has one of the highest rate of MS in England, with more than 1000 people currently diagnosed with the condition - twice the national average- although the reason for this is not known. MS is a chronic condition that affects the central nervous system. Symptoms include loss of mobility, visual impairment, decreased cognitive function, incontinence, and difficulties with speech or swallowing. The therapies provided by our organisation include physiotherapy, occupational and exercise therapy; podiatry; oxygen therapy, day respite, outreach services and complementary therapies. The support services include counselling, carer support, advice and information and free transport services.
