The Republican

www.masslive.com

Founded by Samuel Bowles, an American journalist from Springfield, Massachusetts, the Weekly Republican began on September 8th, 1824. Surprisingly, the name of the paper had nothing to do with politics at the time, for the Republican Party wasn't founded until 30 years later in 1854. The Republican grew rapidly with New England's economy as the Industrial Revolution dominated the region, converting to a daily publication in 1844. In the 1850s and 1860s, The Republican was a go-to source for many Europeans and Americans looking to find out what was occurring in our country during that time. It wasn't until the year 1878 that The Republican decided to publish a Sunday newspaper. Since then, generations of families have relied on The Republican for comprehensive local, regional, national and international news coverage, as well as opinion and advertising. We strive to enlighten, educate and entertain readers every day. Today, we are more than just a newspaper. We are a multi-platform media company with the ability to provide readers with breaking news and information at our online home, MassLive.com. Readers can interact with The Republican and connect with other readers at MassLive.com. El Pueblo Latino, our weekly Spanish-language newspaper, provides relevant news and information to the growing Hispanic population in our region. POP Network is our point of purchase screens through out the Western Mass area for advertisements to reach an even larger local audience with video ads.
