Stichting DOEK is a collective of musicians active in improvised music. dOek is short for de Oefening de Kunst, the practice of art, and refers to the basic premise of the stichting, which is that like all musics, improvisation requires practise. To develop as an improviser a musician needs to play in a variety of situations, including rehearsals, new encounters, long-standing ensembles, at home and overseas. Stichting doeK helps to makes these situations possible, thanks to funding from the NFPK (Dutch Foundation for Performing Arts).
