still room is the graphic design studio of Jessica Fleischmann, currently with Dorothy Lin. still room was founded in 2007 in a solar powered converted garage in Echo Park. Now we share space in downtown Los Angeles with architect Rachel Allen and landscape architect Allen Compton, our collaborators in Group Effort. At still room, we listen and look, research and respond. Our expertise is socially engaged cultural work; from books to branding, collaborations range from individual artists to cultural institutions to confectioners. We know that simplicity can be a complex matter and that embracing good design takes courage. We are passionate about breaking rules, but only because we know them inside out. We are committed to information flow. We take an integrated approach to problem solving. We believe that inventive, effective design is a conversation and process. Before establishing still room, Jessica was Art Director of Western Interiors and Design magazine and design associate at Lorraine Wild Design (now Green Dragon Office), and with Greybull Press. She received an MFA in Graphic Design from CalArts in 2001, after obtaining two liberal arts degrees and working in non-profit arts management, as a chef and as an art instructor. She has taught graphic design and typography at Otis College of Art and Design, USC, and SCIArc.
