For emergency medical care in the Columbia University area, call 212-854-5555 A student-run volunteer ambulance service operating in the Columbia University/Morningside Heights area of New York City since 1962, the Columbia University Emergency Medical Service (CUEMS, formerly CAVA) serves a campus community of approximately 30,000 people. CUEMS is a licensed New York State BLS service, providing high-quality care and transport at no cost to our patients. CUEMS is available 24/7 during the school year and over the summer. The service also offer sponsorships to Columbia University students interested in becoming Emergency Medical Technicians, as well as CPR courses to the public.
