The Society of Marine Warranty Surveyors (SOMWS) has been established as a not-for-profit, professional body through which individual Marine Warranty Surveyors can be certified. It has been developed in association with the Joint Rig Committee (JRC) to raise the profile of marine warranty surveying in the wider marine, upstream oil and gas and renewables industries. For a number of years the JRC has been searching to develop a more standardised approach for insurers to appoint Marine Warranty Surveyors (MWS). SOMWS will act as a professional body for those Marine Warranty Surveyors providing an interface for Insurers to efficiently pre-qualify Surveyors and validate competence, capability and experience against the projects requirements. We have four full member categories against which applicants can apply for membership: General Cargo Oil & Gas Projects Rigs and MODU Renewables In order to achieve certified status, individual MWS need to meet the requirements of the formal SOMWS admission process comprising of a professional interview and panel review of qualifications and experience. We look forward to welcoming new members and encourage debate and the sharing of best practice via the use of this Members only forum.
