Welcome to the Virginia Bail Association! Resources and Advocacy for Virginia’s Recovery, Property and Surety Bail Agents The Eighth Amendment to the United States Constitution provides that “excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel or unusual punishment inflicted.” A natural result of this right is the constitutional guarantee of reasonable bail pending trial, a concept which has been universally affirmed by the Courts of this great Union. The professional bail agent is the main instrument through which the right to freedom before trial is practically applied. This function imposes obligations beyond ordinary private enterprise. It imposes grave social responsibility to which the Bail Agent should dedicate herself or himself, and for which the Bail Agent should prepare diligently. The Bail Agent, therefore, must be zealous in maintaining and improving the standards of the bail professional and share with fellow Bail Agents a common responsibility for the integrity and honor of the bail profession. The specific purpose of this association is to promote the mutual benefit of its members by disseminating information among members of the Association about issues of import to the profession and to monitor and influence governmental decisions that impact the profession. It is our desire that this site will be a meeting place for bail bondsmen in our state to read, comment and stand together concerning relevant news in our profession. Our first and immediate goal is to identify and reach out to Virginia bail bondsmen, agents and recovery agents. The last time we checked, there were approximately 485 bail bondsmen/agents registered in our state. Our information comes directly and is periodically updated from the DCJS website so we hope this is helpful. Our second goal as an organization is to provide a unified front against NAPSA. While we are not insensitive to the critiques of the bail bonding profession and the role we occupy in the judicial process, we wholeheartedly disagree with NAPSA (National Association of Pretrial Services Agencies) as to the solution. NAPSA is in effect attempting to create another internal bureaucracy at the expense of the taxpayer to take the place of bail bondsmen. We believe BAIL BONDSMEN are the BEST OPTION FOR PRETRIAL RELEASE IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA! Third, we hope in time to publish helpful standards and forms for our members. What’s the best way to run our profession? While we don’t boast to know everything about running the best, credible bail bonds practice – we do know that together we are stronger. We can help each other in this area. If we are going to make our profession stronger and in effect more credible (against the above attacks!) bail bondsmen need to join together.
