The Nova Scotia Firefighters School (NSFS), located in Waverley, is a registered Not for Profit organization whose primary mandate is to provide emergency responders with needful professional instruction and training at a minimum cost. We have 10 full-time staff and 73 part-time, province-wide instructors. NSFS receives minimal sustainable funding from government sources or grants. The majority of revenue is generated through registration fees and sales of publications offered through our bookstore. WHAT DO WE DO?   Began in the mid-1960s by four Halifax County Fire Chiefs who recognized the concern over the quality of training available to their firefighters, NSFS has grown to be the preeminent leader in the Atlantic Provinces for fire training, with an enrollment of approximately 6,000 students annually. Besides a full slate of weekend volunteer and career firefighter courses, NSFS conducts two, 22 week Pre-Employment programs per year, which have a placement success rate of approximately 85%. Industrial firefighting instruction rounds out a busy course schedule.
