Sustaining a life-threatening head injury it was during his road to recovery that Johnson became committed to using the VC bestowed upon him for good, focusing on youngsters in disadvantaged communities. The Foundation’s Through the Gates programme seeks to help 15-25 year olds serving a custodial sentence build a productive life post release. The programme is entirely funded by the Foundation and is operated in conjunction with the St Giles Trust, a leading practitioner in prisoner rehabilitation and direct employment.
